Cement Mill Inlet Duct Optimization
Assessing duct and damper modifications to improve hot gas delivery, pressure control and flow distribution.

Turnell Corp evaluated a cement mill inlet duct system to improve hot gas delivery and support stable grinding with cold clinker. Process calculations and computational fluid dynamics were used to assess gas velocity, pressure losses and flow distribution through the existing ductwork.
The study compared changes to the furnace connection, a control damper and a larger furnace duct. The analysis supported a combined duct and damper modification to improve pressure control and reduce flow resistance. It also identified opportunities to improve gas mixing and temperature uniformity at the mill inlets. The findings provided a basis for developing the recommended modifications during detailed engineering.
