Preheater Fan Inlet Flow Optimization
Comparing inlet duct modifications to improve dust distribution and address conditions contributing to uneven fan wear.

Computational fluid dynamics was used to investigate uneven dust distribution at a cement preheater fan inlet. The study addressed flow conditions associated with uneven fan wear and vibration by comparing the existing inlet arrangement with potential duct modifications.
The assessment examined gas velocity, particle trajectories and the distribution of material between the fan inlets. Guide vanes and changes to the duct transitions were evaluated alongside their effect on pressure loss. The findings supported recommendations for a modified inlet configuration intended to distribute dust more evenly and reduce the conditions contributing to uneven wear.
