Project Scope And Execution
The project installed a new chemical (synthetic) gypsum handling system to supply two existing ball mills.
The construction scope included foundations for the material receiving and storage area, hopper feeder system, and two conveyors with a transfer tower. Work also included complete structural steel erection and assembly of the dump hopper, four drag flight feeders, two belt conveyors, and four drag conveyors with discharge chutes inside the mill building.
Turnell Corp designed the dump hopper system, drag feeders, and belt conveyors in-house. The dump hopper system was housed in a fully enclosed building with siding to accommodate harsh winter conditions. The dump hoppers were insulated and fitted with heating pads.
A key engineering and construction achievement was integrating new elevated steel decking into the existing mill building to support the final conveying section. This arrangement enabled material delivery to both mills through an elevated area with tight space constraints.
